Welcome, welcome! We hope all new and returning families are looking forward to the 2017-2018 school year at DMCA. Here is a bit of information that might help you as we get closer and closer to the first day of school.
Please remember to refer DMCA to friends, neighbors and co-workers that move here during the summer or may be considering a different school for their children. YOU are our best advertisement! To help you spread the word about Divine Mercy Catholic Academy postcards were in the final Friday Folders to share with your neighbors, co-workers, etc.
When is the first day of school?
The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, August 9th.
After you drop off your child the morning of the 9th, please plan on joining us for the “Parent Coffee” in the faculty room at 8 AM.
What about school supplies and summer work suggestions?
Did through those backpacks that came home last year….. hopefully supply lists for this fall are in there! If you need a copy, please go to https://www.plusportals.com/DivineMercySchool Look in the “School Resources” section. The school calendar is also posted, but you must log in for that information.
Middle school students, may bring supplies the first day of school. Middle school will gather at either the pavilion or dome, based on the weather.
As we get closer to the start of school a day/time will be announced for dropping off supplies in PK-5th grade.
What to wear?
Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, VPK and Kindergarten students wear P.E. shorts, P.E. shirts (white or blue) and sneakers as their standard uniform. These may be purchased at Sir Walter Uniforms 500 S. Plumosa Street, Merritt Island, FL. Navy sweat pants and sweatshirt may be worn during cool/cold weather. Older student uniform requirements are available at Sir Walter Uniforms.
As you start making plans for “back to school shopping” please keep in mind the DMCA dress code when planning for NUT day clothing. You, as the adults, are asked to assist us in enforcing the dress code. Please follow the guidelines.
What about new families?
Our Charger Corp is hosting an evening for the parents of our “new students” night at 6 PM on August 7th . Details will be in a separate message to new families.

What’s for Lunch?
Our lunch program will begin on Monday, August 14th. This means everyone needs to pack a lunch for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday August 9-11th. Lunches will be ordered in two week increments. So, Thursday August 10th is the day the orders and payments are due for any lunches you wish to purchase for next two weeks. The lunch menu order form will be sent home with the students on Wednesday August 9th and we will have copies in the office. YES we have opening for parent volunteers at lunch time to help distribute the meals. Please let the office or Mrs. Giemza know if we can count on your help. Remember cleared fingerprints are required.
What’s our first Big Event?
We hope you are making plans to participate in Divine Mercy Catholic Academy’s TWELTH annual Running on Island Time 5K Run/Walk on August 26th at & AM! Runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to join us. We look forward to your participation. The first 350 registered will receive technical shirts (adult sizes) ….. and oh boy they sure look nice! Registration fees vary: Early registration (before 8/17) – $30, Students – $20. Adult registration day of race – $35. The registration form is at the school office and https://www.plusportals.com/DivineMercySchool in the “School Resources” section. $ $ $ If you are interested in sponsoring the 5K, there are several sponsorship levels available. $ $ $ Contact the school office if you would like to be a sponsor or have questions. We received an email from Pete Patellis, our super bingo coordinator….. who is looking for bingo helpers this summer. If you are inclined to help out on a Tuesday during the month of July or August, please let me know and I will forward to Pete! We sure can use some extra helpers. Thank you in advance for your consideration and volunteering.
Rainbow Room payments from “last year”…. Please bring your account current if you think you owe us $$….. reminder invoices will be sent out to the few unpaid balances we have.
August 17th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM is our GENERAL PARENT MEETING. This meeting is for all families, but is especially helpful for new members. We meet in the church and then dismiss to the classrooms.
Please let the office know if you want anyone added to this email distribution list. Once the school year gets rolling it comes out weekly.
Vacation Bible School is offered through the parish and begins next Monday, June 19th for children 4 years old through 4th grade. Registration forms are available at the church office.
If your child is entering kindergarten or 7th grade, please keep in mind there are specific SHOTS needed prior to the start of school. This is just a general reminder – I have not gone through the records yet to see who is current J
